Layout Notes: We currently envision IAT presented in slide panels. A "slide panel" is one web-comic panel (800x350 pixels is the size we started working with, but you never know). Slide panels are presented in a slide-show format, one at a time to the viewer. A "sub-panel" is a subdivision of a slide panel. When I think a scene could appear by itself, I'll use the term "slide panel" to title the scene. When I think two or three scenes could be depicted in the same slide, I'll use the format "Slide Panel [number], Sub-Panel [letter]."

 

 

EPISODE ONE: "WRITE WHAT YOU KNOW"

 

Slide Panel 1

 

MIDDLE SHOT of DEITER DETWILER sitting at his computer desk in his bedroom, typing on the keyboard. He is fully clothed. The captions in this panel are DEITER's type-written words. I suggest making the caption boxes reminiscent of computer screens.

 

CAPTION

Dee's Blog, First Entry: They say keeping a journal helps writers come up with ideas. But what do I have that's worth blogging? I'm Deiter Detwiler. I'm a computer nerd and comic book geek. I write Internet porn. None of that is special these days.

 

Slide Panel 2

 

This panel can be narrower than the others. It is a TIGHT SHOT of DEITER's computer monitor and keyboard. We see DEITER's hands typing on the keyboard.

Dee's Blog, Second Entry: I think I have something to write about now.

 

Slide Panel 3

 

WIDE SHOT of DEITER sitting at his computer desk in his bedroom. POV of shot is from the monitor on his desk: he is FACING THE VIEWER, so we do not see his computer, but we see him sitting in his desk chair, and he is illuminated by the glow of the computer's monitor (OFF PANEL). DEITER is sitting back, looking at the OFF PANEL monitor, bemused and a little bewildered. He is shirtless. DEITER's lap and legs are BELOW PANEL.

 

Two LIME GREEN GIRLS, both personas of GALATEA, have moved into the panel. GRUMPY GALATEA is standing behind DEITER, arms folded, eyebrow arched and lips pouting, glaring at the viewer and the OFF PANEL monitor. LOVEY-DOVEY GALATEA is pressed against his side, arms around him, whispering in his ear. (All GALATEA personas should bare striking resemblances to one another, like sisters, but should have different expressions and physical traits defining their personas.) They are also illuminated by the OFF PANEL glowing monitor, and they are semi-transparent, so have fun with that!

LOVEY-DOVEY GALATEA

Understatement of the year, bright boy.

 

Slide Panel 4

 

Same shot as Panel 3. Same expression on DEITER's face. GRUMPY GALATEA and LOVEY-DOVEY GALATEA are looking down toward his lap. PARTY GALATEA, her bimbo persona, has been sitting beneath the desk and between his legs (OFF PANEL), apparently giving DEITER a blowjob.  She has poked her head up to look over her shoulder toward the viewer. She looks curious, doe-eyed, and innocent.

 

PARTY GALATEA

Huh?

 

 

EPISODE TWO: "KNOW WHAT YOU WANT"

 

Slide Panel 1

 

Panel is blank save for LOVEY-DOVEY GALATEA's face, peering in from one side of the panel. She is looking out at viewer.

 

LOVEY-DOVEY GALATEA

I don't get it, Dee. How can you and I conquer the world if no one really knows who we are?

 

DEITER (OFF PANEL)

Villains want to conquer the world, Galatea. Heroes want to stop them.

 

CAPTION

Dee's Blog: I want to write about Galatea.

 

Slide Panel 2

 

WIDE SHOT, no background. PARTY GALATEA's face peers in from the side of the panel opposite LOVEY-DOVEY GALATEA, who is now looking at her.

 

PARTY GALATEA

Since when?

 

DEITER (OFF PANEL)

These things change. You've got a few hundred years to catch up on.

 

CAPTION

She is my best friend. The love of my life. I want to tell you all about it.

 

Slide Panel 3

 

Suggest using Panel 2 as background for Panel 3. PARTY GALATEA and LOVEY-DOVEY GALATEA are now out-of-focus. Center of panel is dominated by CLOSE UP of GRUMPY GALATEA's face, as if she has loomed suddenly out of nowhere. She is looking out at the viewer. Her face is upside down.

 

GRUMPY GALATEA

Fine.

 

DEITER (OFF PANEL)

Gah!

 

GRUMPY GALATEA

We'll have secret identities. But I still don't see what that’s got to do with this.

 

Slide Panel 4

 

REVEAL: DEITER's crowded bed. GRUMPY, LOVEY-DOVEY, and PARTY GALATEA are surrounding DEITER, looking down at him. LOVEY-DOVEY GALATEA seems particularly interested in his crotch. (PG-13, if you please. I suggest a strategically placed bed sheet or pillow.)

 

DEITER

I can't fight crime until you let me put on some clothes.

 

LOVEY-DOVEY GALATEA

Why not? No one will look at your face, I can guarantee you that.

 

CAPTION

But our love life is a little…complex.

 

DEITER

Are there any more of you under the bed?

 

 

 

EPISODE THREE: "WANT WHAT YOU ALREADY GOT"

 

Slide Panel 1

 

Interior of DEITER'S LIVING ROOM. MIDDLE SHOT of the living room couch. PARTY GALATEA sits at one end of the couch, blowing bubbles through a bubble wand, holding a bottle of bubble fluid in her free hand. LOVEY-DOVEY GALATEA sits at the other end of the couch, pointing a remote control at an OFF-PANEL television.

Slide Panel 2

 

Same shot. PARTY GALATEA has put the wand aside and pouring the bubble fluid into her mouth. LOVEY-DOVEY has not noticed. She's frowning at the OFF-PANEL television.

Slide Panel Three

 

Same shot. PARTY GALATEA is snuggled up to LOVEY-DOVEY GALATEA's side. PARTY has her mouth pressed over one of LOVEY-DOVEY's ears and is blowing into it hard enough to make PARTY's cheeks puff out. LOVEY-DOVEY sits in shocked, wide-eyed silence. LOVEY-DOVEY's hand slowly squeezes the remote. Bubbles are floating out of LOVEY-DOVEY's ear on the other side of her head.

Slide Panel Four

 

Angled, overhead shot of couch. LOVEY-DOVEY has pinned PARTY down and is tickling her without mercy. PARTY is laughing hard but silent soap bubbles zoom out of her mouth instead of laughter. LOVEY-DOVEY's hair has stretched into tentacles to help with the tickling. One hair-tentacle holds the remote.

Slide Panel Five

 

Same shot. GRUMPY GALATEA is OFF-PANEL, but her shadow has fallen over PARTY and LOVEY-DOVEY. PARTY and LOVEY-DOVEY look up at her, curious but not afraid. A few soap bubbles linger in the air.

Slide Panel Six

 

Back to Panel 1 shot. GRUMPY GALATEA sits alone in the middle of the couch, looking smug. She pats her newly rounded tummy with one hand, works the television remote control with the other, and blows a steady stream of soap bubbles from her mouth.

EPISODE FOUR: "GOT TO GET—WAIT. WHAT?"

 

Slide Panel 1

 

Interior of SRU MEDICAL SUPPLY. MIDDLE SHOT of the store counter. TOMOE sits near the cash register, looking out at the viewer, smiling like the Mona Lisa. SB, a rose-colored, diamond-eyed STRAWBERRY BANANA JELLO GIRL with cotton candy dreadlocks for hair, sits behind the counter further down from TOMOE. SB is reading an automotive magazine and slurping on a milkshake.

Slide Panel 2

 

Same shot as Panel 1. SB holds the milkshake in one hand, straw still in her mouth, as she flips through the magazine with the other hand. TOMOE is a fourth-wall breaking character who can talk to narrative captions. These narrative captions should be different than the captions for DEITER's blog.

 

CAPTION

I don't know why you want to be introduced now, Tomoe.

 

TOMOE

I'm bored.

 

CAPTION

That's my point. You're not doing anything funny or sexy, and you're not saying anything that develops the story.

Slide Panel 3

 

Same shot. Tomoe looks sidelong at SB, who just reads the magazine and takes another slurp of milkshake.

Slide Panel 4

 

Same shot. Tomoe points across her chest to SB. Her expression is very matter-of-fact. SB is doing a massive spit-take all over her magazine.

 

TOMOE

She's got a huge dick.

 

FX (SB)

PFFBBLT!

 

CAPTION

Please tell me that's vanilla ice cream.

 

 

EPISODE FIVE

 

Slide Panel 1 Sub-Panel A

 

CLOSE UP of LOVEY-DOVEY GALATEA. Her smile is sly. She is tracing her thumb around her neck, drawing a line in her neck like a collar. I suggest making it an action shot, so the line is currently only half-way across her neck or so.

 

 

Slide Panel 1 Sub-Panel B

 

CLOSE UP of LOVEY's hands. She is tracing the thumb of one hand over the top of the other wrist, drawing a line like a bracelet. The working hand already has a line traced over its wrist.

 

Slide Panel 2

 

WIDE SHOT of LOVEY, stark naked, hopping across the panel, left to right, trying to keep her balance as she traces a line around one ankle, and then another, like ankle-bracelets. Suggest making it an action shot, with LOVEY drawn in a different position across the panel after each hop.

 

FX (LOVEY-DOVEY GALATEA)

Hop Hop Hop

 

Slide Panel 3

 

LOVEY stands proudly in the center of the panel. Thanks to the rings around her neck, wrists, and ankles, she looks like she's wearing the world's tightest spandex bodysuit. DEITER, shirtless but wearing sweatpants, wows at her.

 

LOVEY-DOVEY GALATEA

Ta-dah! Instant superhero costume. Everyone will think I'm wearing spandex.

 

DEITER

But I'll know you're still naked.

 

Slide Panel 4

 

LOVEY has turned around to treat DEITER and the viewer to a fan-service (spandex-y) butt shot. She's throwing a wicked grin at DEITER over her shoulder.

 

LOVEY-DOVEY GALATEA

Yep.

 

DEITER
